Ann Alexander has been a source for greatly appreciated education for the Endowment Committee of Planned Parenthood of Central North Carolina. She helped us understand that we could accomplish two things by moving into a portfolio of socially responsible investments: to maintain the rate of return we need and also to preserve our broad mission. Ann helped us streamline the process by steering us toward firms who could give us good ethical service. We needed a “push” in this direction and Ann gave us the guidance we needed to move forward in an organized fashion. Lida L.  My experience in the Socially Responsible Investing field includes:  Starting a socially responsible business, Wellspring Grocery, in North Carolina over 25 years ago, which then merged with Whole Foods Market, Inc., in 1991. Personally investing with an SRI firm for more than 17 years and working closely with one of the industry’s premiere money managers to ensure that my investments continue to reflect my values. Being a primary decision maker on the investments of several nonprofits and small businesses as well as my immediate and extended family’s finances, providing me with first-hand knowledge of the challenges and rewards of this approach. Membership on the endowment and financial committees of nonprofits, helping them to move their investments to SRI firms. Working with a leading Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), Self Help Credit Union, in Durham, NC, to increase their deposits. Current membership in the Social Investment Forum. Having a passion about how socially responsible investing can bring about positive social changes in our lives, our communities and the world. Research since 2003 including conferences and workshops to learn about various aspects of socially responsible investment. Ongoing research & networking with the premiere SRI financial planners, investment consultants, asset managers, venture capital funds, individual SRI company investment opportunities, etc. Speaking at national conferences about how individuals/organizations can align their investments with their values. |
